Interview with Goran and Tonka Ugrinić of Instant Sailing

Advice and suggestions from a married couple that managed to develop a worldwide yacht booking platform offering complete service to clients

CYR: We noticed your company Instant Sailing has really grown over the past few years. What is that makes you so different and how did you achieve this success?
Goran: As a software developer I was always intrigued by solving complex programming problems. Back in 2015, our old friend Zoran Pelikan explained the challenges facing the yacht charter business, and I noticed a huge potential. There was no solution to unify and centralize all available yachts with information on pricing and availability displayed in real-time. After months of programming I developed a solution that is the core part of our agency today.
CYR: What happened next?
Tonka: In the middle of 2016 we had the software solution ready but we were not quite aware of its full potential. Our partner Marko persuaded us to start Instant Sailing and, we did so right away with the goal of creating something really different to offer charter clients worldwide. Relying on my many years of charter booking experience, Marko’s enthusiasm and the powerful search engine we built, we were able to build a business model that combined the convenience of a real time search engine, with the personal service offered by classic charter brokers.
CYR: Are you trying to say that Instant Sailing is unique among booking platforms?
Goran: There are other booking platforms on the market, but we are unique, as we are not just an IT platform that registers a charter booking, as we used our experience in all segments of the charter business to provide support and service to our clients throughout the charter process. This approach has led to tremendous growth in our business, which is based satisfaction of our customers. We continue to developing our Instant Sailing platform and business model, with a number of new projects in the works which we believe enrich the whole yacht charter market, as well as the client experience. I have to add that although we are a Croatian charter agency, we do not operate only in our country, but we cover destinations worldwide. We are proud to serve our many clients sail from the Caribbean, across the Mediterranean and as far Thailand.
CYR: What is your advice for those looking for a charter vacation?
Tonka: Over the last few years the things have changed in the charter industry and having the newest boat is not the top priority for clients. They insist far more on high standards of yacht cleanliness, and technical maintenance. Personal service from yacht providers is also extremely important. Helpful and friendly staff offering valuable advice with a kind word gives clients peace of mind and ensure a more pleasurable holiday experience. We see a trend of clients returning to classic charter agencies offering complete service in terms of expert advice and suggestions for routes, restaurants, marinas, anchorages etc. We predict that his trend will continue, and welcome it, as yacht charter is far more complex than booking a hotel room. This is why we have integrated the benefits of a full service charter agency with the advantages of a real time booking platform to offer what we believe to be the best option for booking a yacht. We also strongly emphasize to clients, no matter who they choose to book through, avoid private yachts that are not registered for the charter business! The potential risks of such action can result in substantial legal and financial disaster!
