Traditional Wooden Shipbuilding Fair was held in Betina

Last weekend in Betina on the island of Murter, the Traditional Wooden Shipbuilding Fair was held in the joint organization of the Betina Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding, the Tourist Board of Betina and the association Betinska gajeta 1740. There were 36 exhibitors at the fair, 11 of which were family farms that completed the gastronomic part of the whole event on the main square of Betina.

The rich program included an exhibition of traditional wooden ships on Dugi Mul, equipment for wooden ships, while the Betina Presentation Center held many professional lectures given by shipbuilders and other lovers of traditional shipbuilding. In addition, visitors to this three-day fair were able to attend presentations of traditional tools, workshops for children and adults on shipbuilding, sailing, environmental protection, and organized regattas and sailing in wooden boats and visits to Betina shipyards which were presented „in situ“ during these three fair days.

The goals of this commendable project are to promote maritime culture and knowledge transfer, open new opportunities for Croatian small wooden shipbuilding and related traditional crafts and the development of cultural tourism through new socio-cultural content related to the identity of the local community.
