Gothenburg show cancelled for the second year running
Tough new Covid restrictions announced in Sweden have led to the cancellation of this year’s Gothenburg Boat Show (Båtmässan) for the second year running. The Scandinavian boating season traditionally starts with the opening of the Gothenburg show, which was scheduled to run from February 5-13, 2022. The organisers are now preparing for next year’s show instead. The new restrictions were presented by the Swedish government and The Public Health Agency of Sweden.
“Monday 10 January the authorities informed that a vaccination pass will be mandatory at all shows and that there can’t be more than one people per square metre,” says the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, organiser of the Gothenburg show, in a statement. ”Furthermore, there’s a request of a limit admitting 500 people for public gatherings, from 12 January and at least four weeks on. With this in mind we’re forced to cancel the boat show 2022.”
Exhibitors will be able to carry their bookings over to 2023 or cancel them outright. This decision follows the cancellation of the Helsinki International Boat Show last week and comes not long after the organises of the 2022 Oslo International Boat Show pulled the plug too. All of the leading boat shows in the Nordics have now been cancelled for 2022, apart from the Stockholm International Boat Show which still plans to go ahead from March 12-20.
