New Polish boatbuilder launches first motorboat, eyes Mediterranean markets
Joining a growing group of motorboat makers based in Poland, local boatbuilder Arrow Boats is launching its activities by introducing a new motorboat, the Abaris 23, to the market. The manufacturer is also planning to develop a second model in the near future, according to senior company representatives.
Wojciech Wierzbicki, president of the management board of Arrow Boats, told IBI that owing to the use of laminate in the production process, the boatbuilder managed to bring the boat’s weight below the 1-tonne (2,204lb) level. Together with its 300hp (224kW) engine, the Abaris 23 weighs around 1.25 tonnes (2,756 lb). It was built at a shipyard in Majdan, a town located about 21km (13 miles) east of Poland’s capital Warsaw.
“We wanted to make sure that our boat is completely unsinkable, so we carried out a number of tests. For its final test, we took Abaris 23 to the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. We filled the boat with water, got eight persons to board it, and then observed it. The boat didn’t sink,” Wierzbicki said.
In its basic version, Abaris 23 comes with a price tag of €32,990 (US$37,750). This version of the category C boat can carry a total of 10 persons, according to the manufacturer.
Abaris 23 was designed by Tomasz Rosiński, the founder of Polish yacht design studio Rostyle Marine, who has designed boats for a number of local boatbuilders. These include Delphia Yachts and Diamante Premium Boats, among others.
The company’s president said Arrow Boats wants to focus its marketing efforts on the Mediterranean Sea region, as it considers its motorboat to be best suited for this area’s conditions.
“With this in mind, we are glad that we have seen much interest from customers based in Mediterranean countries. We are in talks with customers from a number of countries. I can name Cyprus, Malta, Turkey, and also Algeria,” according to Wierzbicki. “These are some of the markets where we want to be present and look for customers. Their weather conditions are a good fit for our boat.”
The boatbuilder’s president said that its open boat model would be complemented by another model, a sundeck craft “that will offer a large cabin to seafarers,” he said.
“We base our production on the latest technologies that are rooted in environmental protection,” Arrow Boats said in a statement. “Currently, the Abaris 23 motor boat is our flagship product. Both the boat’s deck and hull are made with the use of the infusion technology, while all the components of our motor boat are made with the use of the resin transfer molding and light resin transfer molding technology.”
Arrow Boats said the technologies it uses allow the company to obtain significantly “higher technical and mechanical parameters of the manufactured laminate than in the case of manual production.”
Set up last year and based in Chełm, in southern Poland, Arrow Boats is jointly owned by three shareholders, including its president who holds a 45% stake in the company. The remaining two shareholders, Marcin Gębala and Andrzej Kozłowski, own 45% and 10% respectively, according to official company records.
