The Rijeka shipyard will build a cruise ship worth 250 million euros
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković attended today the signing of the Contract on the construction of the hull and partial outfitting of another polar cruiser, the luxury megayacht Scenic Eclipse, between MKM Yachts, a subsidiary of the Australian group Scenic, and Rijeka 3 May 1905, a subsidiary of the 3 May Shipyard. The contract, by which the Scenic group continues its cooperation with the Rijeka shipyard, was signed on May 3, 1905 by the president of the Management Board Vjera Marić, the director of MKM Yachts Saša Čokljat, and the owner of Scenic Glen Moroney. The luxury polar cruiser will be built jointly by the company MKM Yachts and 3rd Maj as a subcontractor, who will build the ship's hull and partially equip the ship.
So far, the details of this new project, worth around 250 million euros, are still being kept under wraps, it is only known that with this new "Polar" the Scenic group plans to make another step forward in this class of ships, both in terms of technical performance and the level of luxury it will offer the market. Prime Minister Plenković stated that he was glad to witness the third phase of cooperation between the Scenic company, through MKM Yachts, and Croatia.
“First it was Pula's Uljanik, in the most difficult times of bankruptcy, then Rijeka's 3 May, and now it is 3 May Rijeka 1905 and the continuation of the construction of the most modern polar cruisers”, he said, adding that the cooperation resulted in the first construction of the megayacht Eclipse I, then the construction megayacht Eclipse II, which was in Rijeka port for a while during the pandemic, and the successes of those ships are fascinating.
He pointed out that this is the best that a ship can have in a technical sense, a project worth 250 million euros, which is "the fruit of both our cooperation and our committee".
Plenković assessed that it is an important project for the shipyard, for Rijeka, for the Croatian economy, as it includes an increasing share of products and services, an increasing Croatian contribution.
“If this third story of ours is successful, then we have prepared it for the fourth and fifth”, he said and announced that the Government will do everything it needs to and thank the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development for its support.
