ACI Marinas and Lürssen to develop Croatian marina Porto Baroš
Croatian company ACI-Gitone, a joint venture between local operator ACI Marinas and German boatbuilder Lürssen, is currently completing the documentation to launch construction work on the Porto Baroš marina in Rijeka, on Croatia’s Adriatic Sea shore. Senior company representatives from ACI Marinas say the operator is looking to 2022 with optimism amid unexpectedly positive results in the third quarter of this year. The project in Rijeka is expected to be worth some HRK 363m (US$54.5m), and the joint venture holds a 30-year concession to operate it.
“The third quarter showed the full potential of the Croatian tourism industry and the maritime offer. We generated higher revenues in that quarter than in the record year 2019,” said Kristijan Pavić, the chairman of the board of ACI Marinas, as quoted by local daily Novi List.
Pavić said the joint venture is currently preparing environmental impact studies and other key documents to secure the necessary permission for the Rijeka-based project.
“Our goal is to obtain a location permission by the end of next year,” he said.
Located in the country’s north-western part, Rijeka has an urban population of about 214,000 inhabitants.
