RS 21 World Championship 2022 Awarded to Biograd

The first official World Championship for the RS21 have been awarded to Biograd from 3.-6. 11.2022, beating out bids among world renowned racing venues. The location of Biograd was chosen for its phenomenal sailing area, excellent infrastructure and tradition of regatta organization. The host of the event will be JK Briva of Biograd, a young but ambitious club that is rapidly making its mark in competitive racing, especially in the Melges 24 class. The RS21 class, produced in England, is one of the newest and fastest growing one design classes in the world and has proven to be a top racing boat as well as a good club boat for day sailing. At 6.7m, it weighs in at 650kg, has a sail area of 65 m2 and a crew of 4-5 sailors. In just three years, more than 200 have been deployed mostly to competitive sailors in Europe and North America, but fleets are also being formed in Australia, South America and the Middle East.

Last year, the first official European Championship was held on Lake Garda, where 25 boats competed. The participants had excellent sailing conditions and social gatherings on land, returning home full of positive impressions from the event. The level of competition was impressive, and it is obvious that this modern, cost effective class will continue to gain popularity among the global sailing elite. The class representative onally visited Biograd and enthusiastically saw the potential of the location recognizing the Pašman Channel is a reliable source of good winds without big waves, which is an ideal combination for this class. The class also recognized Biograd’s status as world-renowned nautical destination, as for many years before the pandemic Biograd hosted by far the world’s largest international yacht racing calendar, and now looks forward to a new are of racing.
