Marina Kaštela ready to host the Junior European Sailing Championship

At the press conference held in Marina Kaštela, the public was informed about the latest preparations for hosting the junior "European Sailing Championship - class radial Ilca 6 juniors 2021" and the "European Open Trophy 2021", which takes place from June 26 to 3 July. According to the reports, the arrival of over 300 sailors, under the age of 19, 220 boys and 80 girls from as many as 38 countries has been confirmed! Although officially we are still living in the age of the pandemic, competitors from as many as six countries outside the Old Continent are coming to Kaštela: Brazil, Bermuda, Canada, the USA, the Cayman Islands and Thailand!

"This is the most massive transition class, and in addition to a hundred coaches, the competitors are accompanied by parents, and that is an additional 200 people who come to Kastela," said Armano Zekan, director of the regatta, who added:

"So about six hundred people from sailing teams from all over the world will stay in Kaštela for at least ten days, with an additional week before the regatta that some national teams are already using to prepare and get to know the regatta field. There are already Slovenes, soon Italians will arrive, about seventy of them. "

If everything goes according to plan, two races will be sailed every day during the week of the regatta, of course if the weather conditions allow, and everything will take place on two regatta fields - either in Kaštela Bay or on the south side of Čiovo. The owner of Marina Kaštela Capt. Joško Berket, as the host, is proud to announce this great sports competition which is being held in Kaštela for the first time.

"Kaštela is a nautical center, and now we are doing everything to make it a sailing center. We have perfect conditions; from the beautiful sea, through the necessary infrastructure on land, all the way to the project to build a hotel in which we could provide accommodation for athletes. We want to be a sports and tourist destination all year round. And thanks to all those who helped us, who are at hand in the organization of sailing, but also safety at sea, where a large number of people participate, parts of the incense that holds the anchor ", Berket underlined, while the very possibility that Kaštela and Split will host so many sailors, said Tonči Stipanović.

"We are a small country, but a superpower in sailing, especially in the laser class. I am very glad that more and more big sailing events are being organized in Croatia, in support of us athletes ", emphasized the silver Olympian in laser standard from Rio, also the Croatian representative at the Olympics in Tokyo, who helped the organizers gain the trust of the world sailing organizations and host a European festival of young helmsmen.
