Azimut launches new 53 model

Italy’s Azimut-Benetti Group continues to make virtual presentations throughout the pandemic, and its latest one was devoted to introducing the new Azimut 53. Regarding sales, Danila Sabella, the group’s head of corporate communications & media relations, told IBI: “The units sold so far are 15. Ten will be delivered within the end of this fiscal year (August 31, 2021) and the other five after that date.”

Being very spacious and having a plentiful supply of natural light are key features of the new Azimut 53. The exterior design is by Alberto Mancini, who continues to work with Azimut in helping to redefine its model collections. One of the key features of the 53 is the use of pods for propulsion, which provide an extra 60cm (2ft) on the lower deck. They also help lower the centre of gravity of the model, improving stability. Twin 725hp Volvo Penta IPS provide a full speed of 31kt and a cruising speed of 26-27kt, giving a range of 265Nm. A Seakeeper 9 stabiliser is also included.

Accommodation comprises a large, full-beam owners’ suite located mid-ship with en-suite and walk-in closet, plus a forward VIP suite and twin. A one-person crew cabin is accessed from the swim platform, and even includes its own window. The VIP and twin cabins share a second bathroom which also serves as a day head. For exterior socialising, the forward area including the Azimut squared bow provides space for three sunpads and a forward-looking sofa. A bimini is available, supported by four carbon poles. The aft cockpit’s space is enhanced as the stairs from the flybridge and those from the cockpit to the swim platform are both on the starboard side. This allows for a large L-shaped sofa and long teak table plus a bar cabinet that includes an ice maker.

The main salon includes a fully equipped galley, a lot of storage and large sofa seating area and table. This can be arranged to provide an extra bed if required. The salon also includes the lower helm station, which includes a fully integrated display for the Garmin system. The spacious flybridge has sunpads forward that almost wrap around the upper helm station and a seating area. A teak-top bar and barbecue unit with an icemaker is located on the starboard side of the flybridge.
